Motorcycles
When you bring your bike to us, you’ll have an experienced, qualified mechanic actively look at not only what needs attention now, but also the things that you’ll need to keep an eye on in the future. All our staff are trained to note any potential issues that may need attention down the track. You’ll get this report on your paperwork, and it’s indicative of the care we take when we inspect, adjust, tension, or replace any of the parts on your ride. We’re always happy to offer advice on maintenance too – keeping you safe and saving you money the next time you see us.
Q: Who’s working on my bike?
A: Only time served, qualified technicians. Our youngest mechanic has over ten years experience, and our head tech Mark has been with us for over twenty years. At Close MC, you’ll get a tradesman, not an apprentice, working on your bike.
Q: Do we guarantee our work?
A: Yes. We guarantee our workmanship on any item we repair or replace on your bike or scooter.
Q: What motorcycle and scooter repair services do we provide?
A: Here are just some of the services we offer in our fully equipped Sydney workshops (Redfern and Marrickville);

Chain and sprocket replacement
Suspension repairs
Brake pads
Pink slips / e safety check
Log book servicing for warranty compliance

In fact, there isn’t much we haven’t seen – and fixed – since we opened in 1999! Drew and Ryan, our workshop management team, are both fully qualified motorcycle mechanics. Both have been with us for well over ten years each, so you know that you’re getting the right, no nonsense advice from blokes who actually know what they’re talking about every time.
Whether you need a major service on your four cylinder superbike, or just a new tyre on your scooter, we are here to help.
And one more thing – we will always explain what we’ve done and why we’ve done it. Communication is important!

Close Motorcycles – Experience counts!
Scooters
Scooters aren’t the same as motorcycles – they have many differing parts, so it’s important that the mechanic working on your scooter is experienced in systems such as CVT transmissions, and the suspended motor system used on your ride. For example, regular inspection of the drive belt and weight rollers is essential for the reliability of the machine, and we include this in a service. We’ve been working on scooters for over twenty years so let our experience keep your ride safe!

A Scooter Major service is as above, but includes setting valve clearances. You’ll notice that we remove the belt cover in our scooter services – many workshops don’t do this, and we regularly see transmission failures on scooters that have been “serviced” by other workshops!

faq - Smash repairs
Yes. Simply call our Marrickville store and we’ll organise it.
You can book your bike in at our Marrickville workshop (we can arrange collection if not safe to ride), and one of our qualified mechanics makes a preliminary assessment. We can advise of what is and what isn’t a roadworthy issue, and you make a call on the level of repair you require. Depending on the extent of the damage, a fee may be payable for the assessment if we need to put a detailed quote together. This fee is credited back against the job if approved by you.
The simplest example is where your bike is damaged by yourself (at fault) or perhaps an unknown person (for example – you return to your bike and find it on its side having been knocked over by persons unknown). In this case, there is no third party involvement and you call your insurer to make a claim. They will issue you with a claim number, which we will need before assessing and putting the quote together. Provided that we have this claim number, we can take it from here and call you when your bike is good to go again as directed by your insurer. An excess payment is usually collected by us when you collect your bike.
Another common example is when you are insured, but you believe that someone else is to blame for the damage to your bike. In this case, provided that you have the details of the other party, you call your insurer and follow their advice. Most commonly, they issue you with a claim number and the process is the same as the first example. If the other person is found to be at fault, you may not get charged the excess, but this is between yourself and your insurer.
This works in a similar way to the previous examples – as long as you have a claim number, we can assess and quote the bike and take it from here. A note of caution – even if the third party admits fault at the time, try to get the claim number out of them quickly. In our experience, the longer this takes, the less likely you are to see a claim number. And without a claim number, payment for the repair remains your responsibility.
You believe the damage to your bike is someone else’s fault, but they will not provide you with a claim number on their insurance.
Unfortunately, unless we have a claim number, the job is treated as a private repair. Occasionally, the third party will say “just get a quote and I’ll pay cash.” . In this instance, we will have to charge a quote fee, which is as before credited back if the repair goes ahead. With no insurance company involvement, again, payment for any repairs or fees will be your responsibility if you are unable to get the third party to pay you.
We hope this helps you get a better idea of the different areas of smash repair, and we are happy to have a chat about your particular situation through our Marrickville store. Please note that any advice given by us is of a general nature only, and is not legal advice pertaining to your individual situation.
